The Australian Government is changing the way apprenticeship incentives work. To help you stay on top of these changes, and get the best out of your apprentices and trainees, we’re here to help make sense of the updates along the way.
The Australian Apprenticeship Priority List is an updated list of 77 priority occupations set to fill Australia’s current
skills shortage. This will replace the previous National Skills List. Take a look to familiarise yourself with the new content and ensure your business remains at the forefront of Australia’s economic skills recovery. Read more about the priority listhere.
If you’re taking on a new apprentice who is pursuing a qualification documented on the Priority List, the wage subsidy is 10% for the first and second years, and 5% for third year paid in quarterly instalments.
If you’re taking on an apprentice whose chosen qualification is not on the Priority List, there is still a hiring incentive of up to $3,500* paid over two instalments in the first 12 months. *eligibility criteria exists.
Apprentices (who commence their apprenticeship on or after 1 July 2022), will also be able to access payments and subsidies from the government while they pursue their qualifications. If your apprentice has any further questions about these one-time payments, please direct them to chat with the Apprenticeship Support Australia team on 1300 383 831.
